1. ORGANIZATION

4. TYPE OF CYCLOTOURIST EVENTE
 
   4.1 The type of cyclist event is  long-distance cyclotourist-cyclosportif.
 
   4.2 The cyclotourist event shall take place according to the following rules: “Reglamento de Cicloturismo” [cyclotourism rules] of the Spanish Cycling Federation.
 
5. CATEGORIES:
 
5.1 Since the Cyclotourist Ascent Veleta is a cyclotourist-cyclosportif race, competition is excluded and, therefore, there are no categories.
 
5.2 But there shall be a census of the participants that have finished the race in any of the two options.
 
5.3 A special distinction shall be awarded to the following participants:
 
- The most veteran ,
- The most veteran feminine cyclotourist,
- The most numerous cycling club,
- The club coming from a larger distance.
 
It shall be essential to complete the race.
 
6. REGISTRATION:

6.1   La cuota de inscripción para los participantes será de 34,00 €.

Será posible acceder al menú de inscripción de la página oficial en la oficina de Mamut Sierra Nevada (Avda. Sierra Nevada 126, Cenes de la Vega, Granada) de 9.00 H a 14.00 H de lunes a viernes.

6.5 Las placas o dorsales, serán adjudicadas por riguroso orden de inscripción, correspondiendo el número 1 a la inscripción numero 1 y así sucesivamente.

6.6 El plazo de inscripción se establece hasta las 13.00 horas del día 1 de julio de 2009. 
 
7. PARTICIPATION
 
7.1 Those who are keen on cycling and have trained enough for a long period cycling competition and are fit for such an effort can participate in the race, assuming that mountain biking for long periods is a demanding activity, which also implies a risk of accident.
 
7.2 The minimal age to participate in the race is 18 years old (or being to become 18 years old during the year in course) according to Article 21 of the abovementioned Cyclotourism Rules, which allows the organization to establish age limits to the participants depending on the characteristics of the route.


8. ROUTE:
8.1 For the XVII edition of the Ciclotourist Ascent to Veleta there shall be a total route of approximately 39,750 Km, of which 3.5 km shall be neutralized and the rest free speed section and time shall be taken.

8.4 To appear in the timing list, it is indispensable that the cycler passes by the finish line having passed properly by all the control checkpoints established along the ride.

9. EQUIPMENT:
 
9.1 The helmet must be of rigid material, endorsed, being its use compulsory during the whole competition. Non approved helmets are forbidden.
 
9.2 Relating to the clothes, the number and position of the advertising messages can be chosen freely, except in the bibs.
 
9.3 The advertising in the bibs and the sheet with the number shall meet the organization's guidelines, and they cannot be modified.
 
9.4 Participants shall not cut or fold neither the bib nor the sheet.
 
9.5 The cyclers shall be the unique responsible of the proper positioning of the bibs, according to the instructions given by the organization during the handing. The incorrect positioning of the bib could cause lecture errors in the control checkpoints and arrival.
 
9.6 For cycler’s security reasons and for the adequate control of the organization, the bib number and/or the control chip given to the participants are personal and not transferable.
 
In any case, before or during the race, it cannot be changed with the one of any other cycler.
 
 
10. PICK-UP OF BIBS
 
10.1 The bibs and control cards will be given in:
 
10.1.1 The Mamut Sierra Nevada's technical secretary office (located in Carretera de la Sierra 126, Cenes de la Vega, Granada):



             •  June 21-24, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 13:30 PM and from 17:30 PM to 20:00 PM
 
• June 25, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 13:00 PM
 
 
 10.1.2  Star Area:
 
        • June 25, 2010 from 05:30 PM to 08:00 PM.
        • June 26, 2010 from 07:00 AM to 08:00 AM.

            
 
10.2 Documentation required when picking up the bibs:
 
• Registration receipt
• DNI (national identity document)
• Corresponding documentation in case of asking for a discount.
 
 
11. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
 
11.1 All the participants will meet the established safety rules (U.C.I. regulations) with regard to their bikes and clothes.
 
12. BICYCLE
 
12.1 MOUNTAIN and ROAD Bicycles shall be admitted.
 
12.2 The recommended width of the handlebar shall not exceed 62 cm for mountain bike and 44 cm for road bikes.
 
12.3 All the tubes of the bikes shall be blocked.
 

13. CICLOSPORT EVENT START

13.1 The participants will be called to go to the start line 
sixty minutes before the start of the race:
 
13.2 START OF THE CYCLOTURIST EVENT: It will start at 09:00 AM on the 526h of June, 2010, and will finish at 02:00 PM on the 26th of June, 2010.


14. CICLOSPORT EVENT DEVELOPMENT
 
14.1 The rider will complete the route. The rider will have to follow the official route and will be the only responsible for his/her mistakes.
 
14.2 The route will be indicated with signals (not marked), being the rider responsible for seeing the signals, which will be colorful and perfectly located in every crossroads.
 
14.3 The route will be open to the traffic, so the participant shall respect the General Driving Rules and traffic signs, following the instructions of the traffic policemen and organization staff.
 
14.4 Insults, mistreatment and other non-sporting behavior are strictly prohibited. They will constitute a reason for immediate disqualification and subsequent disciplinary measures.
 
14.5 Obstructing and bothering other riders will be considered as a non-sporting behavior and could be penalized with 10 minutes.
 
14.6 If a rider is asked for given way, he/she will have to do it as soon as possible and in a safe way.
 
14.7 The participants are responsible for their bibs. They will be penalized if they lose them or if the judges on route can't distinguish their numbers.
 
14.8 The ciclosport event will partially take place in the Sierra Nevada National and Natural Parks and Dehesas del Generalife park on the periphery, so it is strictly prohibited, and it will be a reason for disqualification, any behavior against the regulations of such parks, especially riding out of the route specified by the organization, dumping, collecting anything from the natural heritage, etc., in accordance with the Spanish Law 3/1999, January 11th, which determines the creation of the Sierra Nevada National Park, the Law 4/1989, March 27th, on the conservation of Natural Environments and common flora and fauna, which was modified by the Law 41/97, November 5th and the Royal Decree 1803/1999, November 26th, which approves the Management Plan for the National Parks Network.

15. CLAIMS
 
15.1 Those riders who considered themselves as damaged in the competition can make a written complaint and pay a 60.00 € deposit in the presence of the president of the technical jury, from the moment they cross the finish line and in the fifteen minutes after the ending of the race. If the complaint is approved, they will be given back the deposit.
 
15.2 Complaints which are signed by more than one participant will not be accepted.
 
16. RANKING:
 
16.1 A diploma shall be given to every participant who completes the route, and a special distinction shall be awarded to:
- Most veteran cyclotourist (man and woman),
- Most numerous cycling club,
- Club coming for a larger distance.
 
16.2 INDIVIDUAL TIME LISTING:
A general list shall be created according to the arrival order, not taking into consideration categories.
 
17. IGNORANCE OF THE RULES
 
17.1 The participation in this competition implies the acceptance of these rules. The ignorance of the rules shall not exempt the riders from the observance.
 
18. SUSPENSION OR MODIFICATION OF THE CICLOSPORT EVENT
 
18.1 If the organization is forced to modify or suspend the race due to adverse weather conditions or any other reasons beyond its control, it will be only responsible for informing the participants about it as soon as possible.
 
19. AWARDS AND SPECIAL MENTIONS:
 
 
19.1 Special Recognition shall be awarded, both in cyclo-marathon and cyclotourist ride and XVII Cyclotourist Ascent to Veleta, to:
 
- Most veteran cycler (man and woman),
- Club coming from a larger distance,
- Most numerous cycling club.
 
20. CEREMONIES
 
20.1 The three first places in the different categories will be on the podium in the ceremony and will wear the regulation sport clothes.
 
21. DETAILS AND CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
 
21.1 The registered participant declares to have trained appropriately for the participation in the long-distance cyclotourist-cyclosportif XVII Cyclotourist Ascent to Veleta(in road bicycle or Mountain bike), and not to have an injury which could get worse as a consequence of the race, so he/she declares to be completely fit to take part in a demanding competition, such as the one in which he/she FREELY wants to participate. He/she accepts all the risks and situations which may arise from his/her participation in this event. Physical and psychic disorders, all the types of accidents of mechanical traction vehicles or different ones. Animals or people attacks and any other situation that may arise. Cetursa Sierra Nevada, Mamut Sierra Nevada, collaborating town halls and sponsors shall be relieved of any responsibility for any accident, incident or mishap.
 
21.2 The participant authorizes the medical services of the XVII Cyclotourist Ascent to Veleta race to heal him/her when necessary, even if the participant can't ask for it; considering his/her requests, the participant agrees to pull out if the medical services recommend it.
 
21.3 The participant declares to know the extreme roughness of the race, and that the route is permanently open to the pedestrian and road traffic and will follow all the instructions from the organization, not to damage himself/herself or another person's property.
 
21.4 Furthermore, the participant shall accept the advice from the organization which consists in periodic trainings and medical checkups before taking part in any certain intensity sport activity, and the importance of being a federate cyclist.
 
21.5 The participant shall wear the helmet correctly (adjusting and closing the safety strap) and all the time.
 
21.6 Before or after the race, the participant shall not take prohibited substances, which the cycling federation considers as DOPING.
 
21.7 All the participants who ask for the discount shall present the original federate permit at the moment they collect the documentation. If it is requested via a messenger service, it is essential to send the federate permit by fax to the number 958 48 64 16.
 
21.8 REGISTRATION REFUNDS CONDITIONS
 
- The organization will give back the registration amount until 01:00 PM on June 18th, except 5€ for administration expenses.
- The refund can be requested calling 958 48 64 16 (option 3) or via email to cicloturistaveleta@mamutsierranevada.com , including name and surname, national identity document, bib and the order's reference number.
- The refund will be transferred to the same credit or debit card used to pay the registration fee.
- After the time and date above, there WILL NOT be refunds.
 
21.9 For all those reasons, and as a determining factor to take part in the race, the participant agrees all the conditions and suggestions established by the organization.
 
22. FINAL REGULATIONS
 
FIRST: The organizing entities accept no responsibility for any circumstances derived from the behavior of the participants or caused by them during the progress of the trainings and the race. The riders will be responsible for them exclusively, and under no circumstances they or their representatives shall bring a lawsuit against the organization or any other person linked to it.
 
SECOND: The organization shall not be jointly and severally liable for any expenses or debts in which the participants may incur before, during or after the ciclosport event.
 
THIRD: Any case not covered hereby will be considered by the Cyclotourism Rules, the Royal Cycling Federation or the International Cycling Union rules.
